Jet Edge Salutes Small Waterjet Shops and Mobile Waterjet Contractors

In honor of National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day, Jet Edge salutes the small waterjet shops and mobile waterjetting contractors who use our products around the world.

Laura and Jose of Arro-Jet.  Read Story.
Right now in an industrial park near you, a small water jet shop is busy making the things that make things happen - aircraft components, auto parts, trim dies, and everything in between. They are waterjet cutting just about every material you can think of, including steel, titanium, Inconel®, plastics, fiberglass, stone, tile, and glass to name a few.

Out in the oil fields and mines, mobile waterjet contractors are using waterjets to safely cold cut pipes and storage tanks, and to improve production in mines and wells.

And in shops you might drive by every day, OEM waterjet integrators are busy incorporating UHP waterjet technology into robotic waterjet cells, water slitting systems and water jet food processing lines.

Gary of JDA Aqua Cutting. Read Story
In your daily life, you use countless items that our customers helped make.  You walk across their terrazzo floors.  You grip a steering wheel that was cut by their trim die.  You fly safely home in an aircraft built with components they cut.  You gas up your car with fuel they helped produce, process and store.

Hats off to the waterjet shops and waterjet contractors who make things happen!

Preventing Small Parts from Falling into the Waterjet Tank

Happy National Something on a Stick Day!

Did you know that a simple stick can be a waterjet operator's best friend?

Experienced waterjet operators keep a stash of toothpicks and stir sticks in their tool box.  Sticks, in fact, are probably the least expensive, yet sometimes most valuable tool a waterjet shop could have on hand.  When cutting very small parts, waterjet operators insert sticks into the cut path to prevent the parts from falling into the waterjet tank.  This allows them to cut small parts without having to leave a tab on the part.

Stir sticks are the secret behind cutting intricate parts on massive waterjet cutting machines, like this water jet cut inlay from David Allen Company:

It's Time to Spring Clean Your Waterjet Shop

Yesterday was the first day of Spring, the Vernal Equinox - the day the sun crosses the Celestial Equator from South to North and day and night are almost equal.  The days are finally getting longer again...and it's time for Spring Cleaning!

This is what your waterjet shop can look like if you keep it clean.
Spring cleaning your waterjet shop doesn't have to be a chore, in fact it can be quite fun and relaxing. After all "Mindfulness" is the in thing these days, and what could be more mindful than waxing your waterjet tank and listening to the gurgles of your Cyclone water jet abrasive removal system.

All kidding aside, giving your water jet shop a good cleaning is definitely good for morale, safety and productivity.  So grab that shop rag and mop and let's get busy cleaning the shop.

Tips For Cleaning Your Waterjet Gantry System

1. Give your water jet system a good scrubbing with a scrub brush and mild detergent, then wipe it with car wax.  Once it's clean, keep it hosed off and don't let any dirty water spray harden. At trade shows, we keep our waterjets spotless by cleaning the tanks, shields and gantry with Formula 409® or Windex® or a similar cleaner.

2. Install Lexan™ guards and overspray courtains to keep overspray inside your waterjet machine footprint.  Guards can be ordered through Jet Edge waterjet parts.

3. Keep your air filters clean on your blower motors.  This will help keep your waterjet ballscrews and ways clean.

4. Give your water jet shop a good overall cleaning and get rid of stuff that you don't use and don't need.

5. Clean As You Go and Put Things Back Where You Got Them - "There's a place for everything and everything in its place."  It was good advice from mom and it's core to the 5S workplace organization method.

6.  Most importantly, once you're done with your spring cleaning, reward yourself and your employees with a fun activity.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Our Waterjet Machines are Made in America, But We're All Irish Today!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from your pals at Jet Edge waterjets!

Our water jet systems are made in the U.S.A., but we're all Irish Today!

We hope you have the luck of the Irish on your side today.  To help you reach your pot of gold sooner, we thought we'd share a few tips with you on how to save money on waterjet operating costs at your waterjet shop.

1. Chase the Snakes Out of Your Water Jet System
Downtime costs money, and money comes in handy.  Don't waste money by neglecting your water jet system. Chase the snakes out - keep your garnet waterjet abrasive clean and maintain your machine.
2. Don't Waste Water - Get a Closed Loop System for Your Waterjet
Don't waste water that could be used for other purposes, such as brewing for instance.  Order a Jet Edge Closed Loop Filtration System.  Contact your Jet Edge sales manager today for a free quote.
3. Save Garnet and Cut with Water When You Can
You don't need garnet abrasive to cut cabbage...or carpet, or foam or many other soft or thin materials. Run some tests on your own waterjet applications and see where you might spare the abrasive.
4. Build a Nest
Use your waterjet nesting software to maximize the number of parts you can cut on each sheet of material.  Your customers will love you for it.
5. Go Fishing!
Go fishing?  You betcha.  Our next waterjet training is May 10-12, and Minnesota's fishing opener is May 14.  If you know how to properly operate and maintain your waterjet system, you will save money.  If you love to fish, we're giving you a great excuse for a trip to Minnesota.
Have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day!
