JACQUET Midwest Adds Dual 5-Axis Water Jet Cutting Machine at Racine Service Center

Jet Edge Inc. announces that JACQUET Midwest has installed a dual head 5-axis Jet Edge EDGE X-5® water jet cutting system at its metal processing facility in Racine, Wisconsin.

The EDGE X-5 is JACQUET Midwest’s third Jet Edge system and JACQUET’s 13th Jet Edge waterjet nationwide.  JACQUET plans to use the new system to provide beveling and chamfering services to its customers in the Midwest as well as nationwide through its five regional service centers.

The waterjet system features a 21’ X 13’ work envelope which enables the metal service center to process full 8’x20’ or 10’x20’ plates.  Its dual 5-axis cutting heads double their production and are capable of cutting precise 3D parts from virtually any material, including bevels up to 50°.  Powered by a 60,000 psi 100 hp Jet Edge iP60-100 intensifier pump, the ball-screw driven waterjet system has the best repeatability in the industry at +/- .001”.  The system also has submerged or above-water cutting capabilities as well as a proprietary plate mapping feature that allows precise nozzle-to-plate standoff.

“We’re really excited to bring the Jet Edge dual head 5-axis water jet into our facility,” said Dan Chatterton, JACQUET Midwest CEO.  “With the precision that we’ll be able to achieve with the 5-axis taper control machine, we can provide a tighter tolerance part from the top edge to the bottom edge of the part, eliminating a lot of the machining.  It allows us to do much more for our customers; we can bevel cut, taper control, and chamfer holes on both the top and bottom edges of the material.”

Chatterton noted that JACQUET has always equipped its service centers with large gantries to better serve its customers.  When JACQUET decided to add a 5-axis system, it distinguished itself even further by offering the rare capability of dual 5-axis cutting services.

“All of the machines in the JACQUET system are large table machines because of the large plate sizes that we buy mill direct allowing us to be more efficient with our cuts, have longer run cuts and have better nesting,” he said.  “Our dual 5-axis system is going to provide an even higher level of service to our customers, allowing them to look to JACQUET for all of their cutting needs.”

A subsidiary of JACQUET Mid Atlantic, which is a subsidiary of Jacquet Metals of Lyon Saint Priest, France, JACQUET Midwest is one of five JACQUET metal service centers in the United States.  The company also has service centers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania; Carson, California; Pineville, North Carolina; and Houston, Texas. JACQUET recently acquired the Rolark Group service centers in Canada, with subsidiaries in Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal.

JACQUET specializes in supplying and processing stainless steel and nickel alloys for OEMS, fabricators and machine shops that support primarily the oil and gas, power generation, pollution control systems and water purification industries.  JACQUET’s North American service centers provide waterjet and plasma part cutting.  The company stocks 19 different grades of stainless steel and nickel alloy plates in a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses.

Metal Service Center JACQUET Southeast Now Offering Large Format Water Jet Cutting Services in Charlotte

Metal service center JACQUET Southeast is now offering large-format water jet cutting services to the southeastern U.S. at its new metal processing and distribution center in Charlotte, N.C.

JACQUET Southeast is capable of processing materials up to 21’x13’ on its Jet Edge Mid Rail Gantry water jet cutting machine. The company also offers plasma cutting services and carries 19 different grades of stainless steel and nickel alloy plates in a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses.

A subsidiary of JACQUET Mid-Atlantic of Pottstown, Pa., and JACQUET Metals of Lyon Saint Priest, France, JACQUET Southeast serves the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Alabama. It is one of five JACQUET metal service centers in the U.S. JACQUET also has service centers in Pottstown, Houston, Racine, Wis., and Irvine, Calif.

JACQUET Southeast specializes in supplying and processing stainless steel and nickel alloys for a wide variety of industries, including power generation, chemical processing, wastewater treatment, aviation and aerospace, textiles and nuclear applications. With its water jet and plasma cutting capabilities, the company can offer standard shape cutting of rings or discs as well as intricate parts from customer drawings.

While JACQUET’s Charlotte metal processing and distribution center is new, JACQUET is not new to the Southeast, explained Ryan Hendrix, manager/owner of JACQUET Southeast. The company has been serving the region through its Mid-Atlantic facility for several years, and opened a sales office in Charlotte in 2007.

“There are not a lot of companies stocking and processing stainless plate in the Southeast, so we are uniquely geographically located,” said Hendrix, who noted that JACQUET decided to open a metal processing facility in Charlotte to meet the region’s growing demand and to provide same or next-day rush services to its southeastern customers.

“We offer a level of customer service that sets us apart,” Hendrix continued. “When you couple that with our ability to respond quickly to our customers here in the Southeast from our new facility in Charlotte, I believe we have a great deal to offer our customers. We are extremely excited to now have the ability to be able to offer next-day or even same-day cutting and shipping to our customers.”

Hendrix explained that he decided to install a Jet Edge waterjet system in Charlotte based on JACQUET’s satisfaction with its Jet Edge equipment at its other U.S. service centers. JACQUET Southeast’s Jet Edge is the company’s seventh Jet Edge nationwide.

“You can just do so much with a Jet Edge waterjet that we felt like we had to have that capability,” Hendrix said. “Many of our customers find that they can save a good deal of money by having us waterjet pieces as opposed to other cutting methods, as it greatly reduces the amount of machining they have to do to the part once they receive it. We can offer such a nice finish on the edges by just waterjet cutting, and customers really respond to that.”

To meet its customers’ needs for large-format cutting, JACQUET equipped its Jet Edge waterjet table with two Jet Edge Permalign II abrasivejet cutting heads and a 100HP intensifier pump to increase productivity. They also added an optional mirroring package which makes it possible to cut large parts twice as fast, independent programmable Z carriages, programmable height sensing, a fully-functional remote pendant, large-capacity bulk abrasive hopper, submerged cutting package, a closed-loop water filtration system, and a garnet removal system. JACQUET’s Jet Edge Mid Rail Gantry is capable of maintaining +/- 0.001" linear positional accuracy (over 12") and +/- 0.001" repeatability (bi-directional).

Metal Service Center Jacquet Installs 21'X13' Waterjet Table

POTTSTOWN, PA. (August 21, 2009) -- Jet Edge, Inc., is pleased to announce that Jacquet Mid Atlantic of Pottstown, Pa., has installed Jet Edge’s new 21’X13’ large-format Mid Rail Gantry Waterjet System. The Mid Rail Gantry is the third Jet Edge waterjet system at Jacquet’s Mid Atlantic service center and the company’s sixth Jet Edge waterjet system nationwide.

Jacquet’s new Jet Edge Mid Rail Gantry water jet system features a 21’X13’ work envelope with a system design that easily accommodates overhead loading with the bridge clearing the tank. Jacquet equipped the waterjet table with two Jet Edge Permalign II abrasivejet cutting heads and a 100HP intensifier pump to increase productivity. They also added an optional mirroring package, independent programmable Z carriages, programmable height sensing, a fully-functional remote pendant, large-capacity bulk abrasive hopper, submerged cutting package, closed-loop water filtration system, and garnet removal system.

A subsidiary of Jacquet Metals of Lyon Saint Priest, France, Jacquet Mid Atlantic is one of four Jacquet metal service centers in North America. The company also has metal service centers in Houston, Racine, Wis., and Irvine, Calif.

“We have a very large inventory of stainless steel and nickel in many different grades, thicknesses and widths, and we are able to cut near net-shape parts,” said Jacquet CEO Terry Engle. “Having the combination of that, plus our fast turnaround has really helped our growth.”

When Jacquet opened its North American operations in 2006, Engle decided to install the largest waterjet cutting systems available on the market to meet a growing demand for large-format cold cutting. Over a two-year period, Engle installed massive Jet Edge Low Rail Gantries at each of his plants. With waterjet tables as large at 15’X22’, Jacquet can claim some of the largest waterjet cutting tables in North America.

“Because the tables are so large, we can hold extremely large plates up to 15’X21’,” Engle said. “We also have two cutting heads on each table, so we can process two plates simultaneously or utilize two heads on one nested plate of parts, doubling our productivity. This has gotten us some work because we can cut two parts at a time and reduce the cost and turn-around to the customer.”

Engle noted that waterjet is the ideal cutting method for most of his applications because it eliminates heat-affected zones (HAZ) and reduces the need for secondary finishing operations, which results in lower finished part costs for his customers. If a customer desires a polished near-finished part, Jacquet typically cuts the part from polished plates. This saves time and money for customers because it eliminates the need for them to polish individual parts.

“Whenever we have customers who need small parts or tight tolerances or special sketch cuts, we push them toward waterjet. Also, when we are cutting heavy plate, we try to convince them to go with waterjet because they can save on material. When you cut with plasma, you have to add additional kerf and material for machining. Waterjet saves on material and machining. When roughing material to allow for machining afterwards, waterjet does not put any heat into the part, allowing the material to be machined much easier and saving on tooling costs.”

Engle decided to buy his waterjet systems from Jet Edge after extensively researching several waterjet manufacturers and interviewing Jet Edge’s references.

“I did a very thorough follow up with Jet Edge’s references,” he said. “They all spoke very highly of the reliability of the pump, technical service and Jet Edge’s on-time parts delivery. That was a big part of us picking Jet Edge. I also was very impressed with Jet Edge’s sales process and technical expertise. Jet Edge’s regional sales manager Scott Wirtanen had very strong technical knowledge of the machine and understood our application. He helped us pick the right machine and equipment for our application.”

Engle decided to buy his latest Jet Edge waterjet machine based on his satisfaction with Jet Edge’s equipment, service and training.

“We have run our other systems 16 hours a day or more for over two and a half years,” he said. “Anytime we have had issues, Jet Edge has been very good at offering technical solutions to help us out. Jet Edge’s lifetime training program also has been very successful for us. We have sent people to training at Jet Edge and we’ve had training here. It has been very valuable as we have added locations and new operators.”
