Intelligent Water Jet Pump Uses 30% Less Electricity, 80% Fewer Components

Water jet manufacturers Jet Edge and Tecnocut S.p.A. are pleased to introduce the energy-efficient ECUBE 6200 servo-driven intelligent water jet pump. The ECUBE 6200 will make its North American debut at FABTECH, Nov. 2-4 in Atlanta (Jet Edge Booth 3906).

Developed through Jet Edge and Tecnocut’s research and development partnership, the 90KSI (6200 bar) ECUBE 6200 utilizes an electrically controlled servo-driven intelligent pump; the completely electro-mechanical system uses 30% less electricity and has 80% fewer components than a hydraulic waterjet intensifier pump. Depending on the application, 90KSI water jet pumps make it possible to cut up to 50% faster and reduce garnet consumption up to 50% compared to 60KSI waterjet pumps. The ECUBE 6200 produces 0.7 gpm (2,61 lpm) of ultra high pressure water and supports water jet orifices up to 0.011” (.28 mm).

Jet Edge, Chukar Waterjet Exhibiting Innovative Water Jetting Equipment at International WorkBoat Show, December 1-3

Water jet technology companies Jet Edge and Chukar Waterjet will exhibit the latest innovations in portable ultra-high pressure water jet cutting and surface preparation water jetting technology at the International WorkBoat Show, Dec. 1-3 in New Orleans. Look for Jet Edge and Chukar in Booth 3559.

As leaders in the ultra-high pressure waterjet industry, waterjet manufacturer Jet Edge and its applications partner Chukar Waterjet have developed numerous waterjetting tools crucial to the workboat and shipyard industries, including portable water jet cutting machines, precision water jet cutting systems, ultra-high pressure water blasting tools, undersea waterjetting equipment and electric and diesel-powered water jet intensifier pumps. Most recently, in emergency response to the Gulf oil spill, the two companies partnered to develop the first-known waterjet intensifier pump capable of operating at depths below 5,000 feet. BP used the subsea waterjetting system to blast away hydrates that were clogging a containment system.

During International WorkBoat Show, Jet Edge and Chukar will display several water jet tools that are ideal for use in environmentally sensitive marine environments or potentially hazardous areas, including the Jet Edge Hydraulic Versacutter portable linear and pipe cutting system; Gyra Jet LP ultra-high pressure lance for surface preparation, coating and corrosion removal; Ultra Deckblaster walk-behind deck blasting system for removing coatings and corrosion; and the 80hp 60,000 psi iP60-80DS diesel-powered portable water jet intensifier pump. Technical experts from Jet Edge and Chukar Waterjet will be available to answer questions about water jet applications.

Commercialization Partner Sought for Subsea Waterjet Equipment

Jet Edge and Chukar Waterjet are seeking an existing underwater operations technology company with which they can partner to bring their undersea waterjetting equipment to the commercial market. For more information, contact Bruce Kivisto at Chukar Waterjet at 763-497-8731.

Water Jet Equipment on Display at International WorkBoat Show 2010:

Jet Edge iP60-80DS Diesel-Powered Waterjet Intensifier Pump

Jet Edge’s iP60-80DS diesel-powered water jet pump is capable of producing up to 1.35 gpm (5.1 L/m) of ultra-high pressure water for mobile water jet cutting applications, and is especially suited for cold cutting in environments where heat and flames are restricted. The iP60-80DS is powered by a reliable four-cylinder Cummins turbocharged diesel engine and is designed for portability and ease of maintenance. A 36,000 psi conversion kit is available.

Hydraulic Versacutter

Jet Edge’s Hydraulic Versacutter is a portable abrasivejet cutting and beveling system. Rigid and flexible tracks allow the Hydraulic Versacutter to operate on flat or curved surfaces. The system is used in a variety of cutting applications including pipelines, steel reinforced concrete, reactor vessels and fabricated metal structures. It is especially suited for cutting in hazardous zones where flames and heat are restricted. It is powered by a Jet Edge water jet intensifier pump.

Gyra Jet LP

Jet Edge’s Gyra Jet LP is a rotating hand-held water blasting tool that directs up to 55,000 psi (3,800 bar) UHP water for water jet surface preparation, industrial cleaning, coating removal, and concrete demolition. Typical applications are removal of damaged surfaces, preparation for recoating or painting, and stripping corrosion and over-spray. The Gyra Jet uses much less water than a typical pressure washer and, unlike sandblasting, it does not create hazardous airborne dust. It is powered by a Jet Edge water jet intensifier pump.

Ultra Deckblaster

Jet Edge’s Ultra Deckblaster is specifically designed for ultra-high pressure (UHP) waterjet surface preparation, water jet coating removal, and light scarification on flat surfaces such as ship decks. The self-propelled Ultra Deckblaster waterjetting machine operates at pressures up to 55,000 psi (3,800 bar). The Ultra Deckblaster also removes accumulated spillage such as grease, oil and overspray. The Ultra Deckblaster can be connected to an industrial vacuum system to contain waste water, an important consideration in sensitive marine environments. It is powered by a Jet Edge water jet intensifier pump.

Tips for Water Jet Cutting Glass

  • Reduce the risk of chipping by using a low-pressure pierce of approximately 10,000 psi.
  • Reduce low-pressure piercing time from two minutes to 10-15 seconds (depending on thickness) by cutting a tiny circle rather than leaving the jet fixed on one spot.
  • 120 grit garnet will produce the best edge quality. If speed is your priority and chipping not a concern, use 80 grit garnet
  • Cut at 75,000 psi to increase cut speed by 50-75% and improve edge quality.
  • Support glass on a sheet of 3/16” corrugated PVC rather than directly on the metal slats. This reduces the risk of chipping and fogging.
  • If your projects require you to frequently raise and lower pressure, install a patented Jet Edge Dual Pressure Valve to save time and prolong water jet pump component life.
  • Tempered glass cannot be cut with waterjet.

Portable Water Jet Cutter Cuts Circles, Radiuses

Jet Edge introduces the Spyder Abrasivejet Radius and Circle Cutting System, a portable abrasive water jet cutting system designed for use in potentially hazardous environments.

The Spyder Abrasivejet Radius and Circle Cutting System can be set up on the side of tanks, small vessels and large diameter piping. It is held in place by vacuum cups and features a self-aligning centering pin for fast and reliable setup. Motion components are made from non-ferrous materials, and cutting head manipulators are powered by pneumatic motors, making the Spyder suitable for use in all environments. A master control panel allows operators to control the cutting head manipulators, direction, speed of travel, abrasive delivery and vacuum components from one location.

The Jet Edge Spyder Radius and Circle Cutting System is available in two sizes: 1” to 6.5” insider diameter/16” to 48” outside diameter and 3” to 12.5” inside diameter/27.5” to 56” outside diameter. The Spyder water jet cutting system is powered by Jet Edge’s 60,000 psi (4,100 bar) waterjet intensifier pumps, which are available in electric or diesel models up to 280HP.
